‘The trace is appearance of a nearness, however far removed the thing that left it behind may be. The aura is appearance of a distance, however close the thing that calls it forth. In the trace, we gain possession of the thing; in the aura, it takes possession of us.’

Walter Benjamin

My drawings attempt to explore the notion of nearness and immersion in a city/ a place/ an atmosphere, and at the same time the notion of distancing. My attempt is to construct a very specific and precise atmosphere – and at the same time reveal nothing of the actual physicality of that place.

You wake up from a dream and you feel like you can describe every single detail of the whole story; and that very moment you remember nothing.

Architect and artist. Studied architecture in Athens, Eindhoven and Edinburgh and worked with architectural practices and as a free-lance architect and designer. In the Athens School of Architecture (NTUA) I studied drawing and painting with Professors Sotiris Sorogas, Vasso Kiriaki, Dimitris Sevastakis, and Vana Xenou – a few of the most distinguished contemporary Greek artists. I have taken part in group exhibitions in London, Athens and Edinburgh.

My interactive installation ‘Athens by Sound’, after successful competition entry, represented Greece in the Venice Biennale of 2008. I am currently a Senior Lecturer at the University of East London; I enjoy immensely teaching and researching in the areas of architectural design, interiors, urban design and digital media, and working on interdisciplinary research and design projects.
